Publications

The Law Journal publishes three Issues annually: two General Issues and a Thematic Issue. It also produces two shorter editions of Forum each year, providing an arena for polemic argument and fostering informed debate.

General Issues

Produced twice a year, these Journal publications consist of unsolicited submissions on a broad range of topics. Articles, case notes, speeches and commentary on various contemporary legal issues are accepted from Australia’s leading legal minds. Before an article is accepted for publication, it undergoes a rigorous anonymous review process, conducted by external experts (both within and external to the UNSW Faculty of Law) and by members of the Editorial Board.

Thematic Issues

Published once every year, the Thematic Issue is devoted to a single topic of current legal (and general) interest. Contributions are solicited from leading authors in the field, with the resulting collection of articles representing a range of perspectives on the given subject. Through its detailed coverage, the Thematic Issue stimulates critical reflection on contemporary legal issues, as well as providing a springboard for informed debate on specific topics.

Recent Thematic Issues have focused on the following topics.

Forums

A shorter, more informal publication, the object of the twice-yearly Forum is to create an arena for thoughtful and intelligent debate on contemporary legal issues. Focusing on a specific (and often controversial) issue, Forum allows for a vigorous argument and an analysis of current legal affairs that is often impossible in the general media. This promotes better awareness and understanding of such issues within academic, professional, judicial and other circles.

Issues of Forum are reprinted in the subsequent General Issue. Recent editions of Forum have focused on the following topics:
